New Canaan’s two impressive and energetic Democratic Candidates for State Representative — Lucy Dathan (142nd District) and Ross Tartell (125th District) — are filing for state matching funds to finance their campaigns through a unique program known as the Citizens’ Election Program, which aims to keep “dark money” out of politics. In order to qualify they must prove a certain amount of grassroots support, which equates to 150 individual donations from the towns that contain their districts totaling $5,100 or more.

All US citizens 12 years of age and older are eligible to donate, and the candidates are able to receive $5 – $250 in individual donations. The number of contributions is crucial, so dividing donations within a household is most helpful. Can you help them? If you can’t spare $5, can you share this post?
